Since 1971, College Pro has been committed to providing our student franchisees with a world-class, small business experience and training. Each year, our painting and window cleaning teams treat an average of 25,000 homes, and we have completed charity work and community service in every US state and Canadian province we operate in. 

We assume that our student managers do not know anything about running a business, and we train them on all aspects, including, but not limited to:

The most important thing aspect of our training is that of safety.  We take safety very seriously and have been leaders in creating new, better safety standards and training programs for our managers and their painters and window cleaning technicians.  Our safety training programs have been designed specifically to meet the safety needs and regulations that are part of our industry, and we reinforce this learning through practical, on-the-job examples.

I’m writing this letter to share my experience as the parent of two current College Pro (CP) franchisees. (Sam will be going in to his fourth summer and Ben is beginning his second year). My objectives in writing this letter are to give you my first hand perspective on our experience and to share with you some of the concerns I had with CP.

Our son Scott had been working his way through school selling shoes at Sears for spending money. He had almost completed his junior year of college with a business & marketing major when he came to his mother and me to ask us about an opportunity to work for College Pro as a franchisee. At first we were quite skeptical. 

 
 
 

We have an “eyes wide open” philosophy

We have a rigorous selection process, and of the 25,000 students who apply, we only select the top 700 as Franchise Managers. We employ an "eyes wide open" philosophy to ensure we select and operate the best possible candidates, and each person understands the program and their responsibilities.  We know that, as parents, you want what is best for your child, and we encourage you to meet with one of our General Managers, Vice-Presidents, or talk with other parents of current or past franchisees to see if this is right for your child.   

College Pro provides a resume-building experience that students simply can’t get anywhere else

Let’s be honest.  A College or University degree doesn't guarantee a job these days.  There are a lot of recent graduates who are unemployed and disillusioned these days, and the young adults who get jobs after graduation are the ones who have experience actually doing something. 

For the right student, College Pro can provide a highly rewarding experience and invaluable business and life skills that can prepare them for long-term successes.  Is it easy?  No!  It is challenging and a lot of work, and it is certainly not for everyone.  It is important that your child understands and accepts that it is up to them to make it work, and that College Pro will train, support and mentor them every step of the way to help them achieve success.  Most students find that they get out of the experience what they put into it; working hard yields success, and vice versa. 

Your child is already working on his/her education in school, learning theory and concepts, but, as we all know, there is no better teacher in life than real experience. This will not be a job; it will be, as one proud parent said, “an internship into the real world and a stepping stone to growth”.  Regardless of what your child may want to do in the future, the experience and skills he/she gains from College Pro will enhance their resumes and build a strong foundation for their future.
